  3. I've seen your advert for people to lead cycle trips.
  4. Are you the right person to speak to?
  5. Yes, I am.
  6. Could I have your name, please?
  7. It's Margaret Smith.
  8. Are you looking for a permanent job, Margaret?
  9. No, temporary. I've got a permanent
  10. Job starting in a few months' time.
  11. And I want to do something else until then.
  12. What work do you do?
  13. This will probably sound crazy.
  14. I used to be a lawyer,
  15. And then I made a complete career change,
  16. And I'm going to be a doctor.
  17. I've just finished my training.
  18. Right. And have you had any experience of leading cycle trips?
  19. Yes, I've led several bike tours in Africa.
  20. The trip to India that I
  21. Had arranged to lead next month has now been cancelled.
  22. So when I saw you were advertising
  23. For tour leaders, I decided to apply.
  24. OK. Now, we normally have two or three leaders on a trip,
  25. Depending on the size of the group.
  26. Some tours are for very experienced cyclists,
  27. But we've got a tour coming up soon in Spain,
  28. Which is proving so popular we need an additional leader.
  29. It's a cycling holiday for families.
  30. Would that suit you?
  31. It certainly would.
  32. I enjoy working with children.
  33. And I probably need some more
  34. Experience before I go on a really challenging trip.
  35. That tour includes several teenagers.
  36. Have you worked with that age group before?
  37. Yes, I'm a volunteer worker in a youth club
  38. Where I help people to improve their cycling skills.
  39. Before that, I helped out in a cycling club
  40. Where I taught beginners.
  41. Well, that's great.
  42. Now, the trip I mentioned is just for a fortnight,
  43. But there might be the possibility of leading other tours after that.
  44. Would that fit in with your plans?
  45. That'd be fine.
  46. I'll be free for five months.
  47. My job is due to start on October 2nd
  48. And I'm available from May 1st until late September.
  49. Good. Now, is there anything I
  50. Need to know about the food you eat?
  51. We usually have one or two people in the group
  52. Who don't eat meat or have some sort of food allergy,
  53. So we're always very careful about that.
  54. Yes, I'm allergic to cheese.
  55. Would that be a problem?
  56. No. As long as we have enough
  57. Notice, we can deal with that.
  58. That's great.
  59. It sounds really interesting.
  60. Would you like me to fill in an application form?
  61. Yes, please. Where should I post it to?

  75. Should I bring anything to the interview?
  76. We'll have your application form, of course.
  77. But we'll need to see any
  78. Certificates you've got that are relevant in cycling,
  79. First aid or whatever.
  80. OK. And at the interview,
  81. We'd like to find out about
  82. Your experience of being a tour guide.
  83. So, could you prepare a ten-minute talk about that, please?
  84. You don't need slides or any complicated equipment, just some notes.
  85. Right. I'll start thinking about that straight away.
