  1. Good afternoon and welcome to City Hour,
  2. the radio show that brings you all the latest information about events in and around our city.
  3. Today, we have with us Cynthia Smith,
  4. who is heading up this year's City Fair.
  5. Cynthia, would you start by giving us some of the basic information about the fair?
  6. Where will it take place this year?
  7. I'm glad you asked that question,
  8. because I know most people will be expecting the fair to be at the fairgrounds as usual,
  9. but we've had to change the location this year due to some construction work.
  10. You know, they're building the new high school in that neighbourhood
  11. and they've been using the fairgrounds as a place to store construction materials.
  12. So we've moved the fair to City Park,
  13. which I think is a wonderful location.
  14. Yes, that will be a great place for the fair.
  15. I understand that the fair begins on Friday morning with a special opening event.
  16. Actually, it won't begin until that evening,
  17. but you're right about the special event.
  18. Traditionally, we've begun with a parade,
  19. but this year our opening event will be a special dance performance.
  20. And the most exciting part is
  21. that the mayor will be one of the dancers.
  22. The mayor is a woman of many talents.
  23. Cynthia, could you tell our listeners about the price of admission?
  24. What will it cost to attend the fair?
  25. We're trying to keep the price down as much as possible.
  26. A three-day pass is just $25,
  27. or you can buy a Saturday or Sunday-only pass for $15.
  28. The opening event on Friday, the dance performance, doesn't cost anything to attend,
  29. and we're hoping a lot of people will come to watch that.
  30. Could you tell us about some of the events planned for Saturday and Sunday,
  31. the main days of the fair?
  32. We have a lot of exciting things planned.
  33. There are a number of events especially for children,
  34. including a clown show on Saturday afternoon.
  35. On Saturday evening we've got an event
  36. that can be enjoyed by the whole family,
  37. a concert by the lake.
  38. I'm sure that will be a popular event.
  39. Is there anything special planned for Sunday?
  40. Yes, a really fun event.
  41. And we hope a lot of people will participate.
  42. There'll be a singing contest in the afternoon.
  43. It's open to everyone at no charge.
  44. It doesn't matter whether you're an experienced singer or not.
  45. If you've always dreamed of singing on stage, this is your chance.
  46. That sounds like a lot of fun.
  47. I think it will be.
  48. I'd also like your listeners to know
  49. that besides the special events I've mentioned...
  50. There will be things taking place all weekend.
  51. For example, at the food court, international food will be served.
  52. You'll be able to sample dishes from all around the world.
  53. There will also be special games for children at different locations around the fair.
  54. Will there be things people can buy?
  55. Souvenirs?
  56. Anything like that?
  57. We have a large area set aside
  58. where there will be crafts for sale.
  59. This will be an opportunity to buy many lovely handmade things
  60. and to get to know some of our local artists and craftspeople as well.
  61. It sounds like there will be a lot of fun for everyone at this year's fair.
